OUR SERVICES AND PROGRAMS
Open Hands provides the following services to assist the elderly, the disabled, or the economically disadvantaged in Northern New Mexico.
Click on the links below to read more about each service and their associated programs. Services are provided on a sliding fee scale, and donations are welcome.
Our Adult Care Service program now provides professional daytime care in a safe, nurturing environment, for people in our community who suffer from Alzheimer's or other types of dementia. We are seeking funding to support financially disadvantaged people to attend our awake-at-night care program, Night Lite, which mirrors the day care services but is geared toward people who
have Sundowner's Syndrome, a common accompaniment to dementia which leaves
its sufferers awake, restless and agitated throughout the nighttime hours.
Our Community Outreach Services program includes a Home Safety
component, through which we design and build custom, ADS-compliant
wheelchair ramps at people's homes, and also install safety features
from grab bars in the bathroom to walker-safe stairs and handrails to
professional TubCuts™ which enable people with disabilities to remain
mobile, independent, and safe in their own homes. The Open Hands
Medical Equipment Loan Bank provides free lending of wheelchairs,
crutches, shower/tub chairs and portable commodes to members of our
community who have a short-term need for such an item, at absolutely no
charge.
Our Thrift Store support the programs of Open Hands by selling good-condition,
pre-owned and new furniture, clothing, electronics, sporting equipment, books, housewares and more.
